*A bit of randomness that you might already know…or not?
We will start up Link Love Friday again next week. For now, did you know….
1-Too much sugar can increase your hear rate? In a recent Swiss study it was found that when people consumed 60 grams of fructose, their systolic blood pressure spiked by as much as 6 points for 2 hours afterward and up to 8 beats a minute. According to the study author Clive Brown, PhD., “over time this may boost your risk of cardiovascular disease.” Suggestion? Avoid too much sugar like candy.
2-In the United States, it is estimated that every adult unconsciously consumes one pound of insects each year due to garden produce, poor restaurant and home hygiene, and commercial foods for which the USDA allows a certain amount of insect fragments. Peanut butter, for example, is allowed to have 30 insect fragments per 100 grams.
3-If you’ve had an organ transplant, you should avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice (it interferes with the anti-rejection drugs in your blood). This according to the transplant network.
4-The average American drinks about 600 sodas a year!
5– Everytime you lick a stamp you, you’re consuming 1/10 of a calorie.
6-Spotted bananas are sweeter, with a sugar content of more than 20%, compared with 3% in a green banana.
7-It takes about a half a gallon of water to cook macaroni, and about a gallon to clean the pot.
8–Eggs contain the highest quality food protein known. All parts of an egg are edible, including the shell which has a high calcium content.
9–Heart-Healthy, Reduced-Calorie Diets Promote Long-term Weight Loss.
10-Laughter soothes the wounded heart, lightens an awkward moment and, according to recent research, places an emotional emphasis on the words we say...
So what do you think? Some are a bit crazy! Have a fantastic weekend!

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackYikes…didnt’ know I ate that many insects! I enjoyed the randomness, thanks!
These are fantastic! I definitely didn’t know any of them! So bananas actually change their composition as they “age”? Wow!
That is SO GROSS about insects.
Hi Blake! That is a bit scary isn’t it?
Hi healthy ashley! They definitely taste better with age imop.
Hi Vered! I agree…yuk!
Loved #2. Does it mean that if i claim myself vegetarian in the US it actually cannot be true? π (which brings another question: do insects count for meat? – LOL!)
Okay, ew to the fact about peanut butter! And I am so not normal in the soda category. I might have 1 per year, but probably only .5 per year. Way too sickly sweet for me.
Now, excuse me while I go throw out our peanut butter grin
Don’t tell the vegans about the insects, they think they don’t eat animals. (Or kill them since most of the insects are alive when, gulp, eaten). But whose counting?
Hi Alik!Yes and yes! π
Hi Urban Panther! I already did! π
Hi Dr. J! Our secret! Shhh… π
Is it weird that I think the egg shell thing is more gross than the insect thing? Eating an egg shell sounds horrific to me.
You can eat an egg shell? Weird!
Mark, I love lists like these.
The sugar fact just goes to show that, although it’s almost impossible to avoid it altogether, it’s a good idea to minimize it as much as possible.
Although we try to create a perfectly sanitary world we still get bugs in our teeth. But, we’re still breathing, so I guess it’s not that bad for us and obviously doesn’t taste that bad.
How healthy would we be if we replaced those sodas with great organic juices or, even simpler, good old water?
Now I understand why eggshells are a recommended addition to compost. It must add calcium to the soil which ultimately gets transferred back into the food.
Thanks for the post.
i like greener bananas just because i like the texture better – too squishy = yucky for me. but, now that i read the sweetness factor, i wonder if that’s part of it, too … hmm …
Hi SuperHealthyKids! Not weird at all!
Hi Mama Zen! Interesting isn’t it?
Hi Jonathan Aluzas! Fantastic feedback! Thank you!
Hi T! Makes sense to me! π
All I can say is I gotta cut down on my stamps…
peace,

Could I have your phone number, please? That way, when I have nightmares tonight about eating bugs, I can call you to talk me off the ledge. π
Have a great weekend, Mark!
Ok, I’m glad I don’t lick stamps anymore and I don’t like spotted bananas, and I laugh just enough………….:)
Thanks, Mark, and I hope you have a great weekend!!
OK.. I’m going to start licking stamps.
Just as soon as I finish burning some calories by banging my head against the wall!
hee hee
wink
The bugs are crazy!!
As is the amount of soda we drink a year – that’s almost 2/day!!!
Well, I guess I’m not an average American — 600 sodas? Holy crow!!!
Hi Mike! Funny! π
Hi Cammy! Sorry about that! π
Hi Lisa!Have a great weekend too!
Hi Sean! Yes, those odd calorie burners! π
Hi Lance! Maybe some water instead?
Hi Felice! Crazy indeed!
Great roundup!
It’s good to know about the eggshells, since everytime I make scrambled eggs I end up eating little bits of shell. Who knew I was just boosting my calcium?
I find 2, 5,8 the most intriguing. I had no idea egg shells were edible! I think I’ll pass. Good to have you back!
Very interesing-and #2 is kinda disturbing or should I just say gross!! Neat post!!
What great information! I knew about some of it (e.g., bugs..yeah, gross but hey..it’s protein, right? ;), but some I didn’t…especially about egg shells. Won’t be trying them soon, but will keep it stored to pull out to look smarter π
That was great.. but I am never eating peanut butter again!
π
Hi Crabby! I’m not the only one that leaves a little shell in the mix! π
Hi Stacey! Thank you!
Hi Tipper! It is a bit disturbing!
Hi Diana! It is protein π
Hi Tigerlilly! I bet you will… π
In my opinion, eggs are THE superfood!
I always prefer my bananas to be browning π
From the amount of peanut butter I ingest, I must consume a whole lotta insects… ew.
you may have just ruined peanut butter for me… probably not, but i eat alot of pb. heck yeah for eggs, i LOVE them π
Interesting stuff there. I can definitely see the 600 sodas but I would venture to guess that I had much more than that before I quit drinking them back in 2005 (has it been that long? WOW!).
I had no idea about the stamp or the bananas. Fun facts, thanks.
Hi Sagan! Eggs are the super food no doubt!
Hi ttfn300! I also eat alot of pb…sorry! π
Hi Angie!Thank you!
Those are interesting facts! The one pound of insects each year I did not know about. That is quite a bit of insects that we are consuming.
I love spotted bananas – the more spots, the better, IMO. They make smoothies soooooo delicious and sweet.
I think I’ll go make a veggie and egg scramble for lunch! Thanks Mark!
Kami
I think with all the bike riding and pre-dawn, late evening runs I’ve consumed many, many more insects. Love the random tidbits!
