We all have different things that make us laugh. and books are no exception. One of the funniest books that I’ve ever read, “A Walk in the Woods,” by Bill Bryson. He shares his adventures of hiking on the Appalachian Trail with a companion, an out-of-shape buddy (Katz)from Iowa. Despite Katz’s overwhelming desire to find cozy restaurants, he and Bryson eventually settle into their stride, and while on the trail they meet a bizarre assortment of hilarious characters. I like to get lost in the book and find myself laughing constantly.
A few more books that will tickle your funny bone:
Fat, Forty, and Fired by Nigel Marsh
Furry Logic: A Guide to Life’s Little Challenges – Jane Seabrook
A Dirty Job: – by Christopher Moore
As we are well aware, there are many good benefits to laughter and reading.
So get lost in a book and read and laugh and laugh and read!

Those books sound great. I have not read a funny book in a very long time, but this post reminds me I should!
Thanks for the book suggestions. I’m always looking for a good one and these are all new to me!
Mark, I love books. I read them all the time for a good laugh. I read Bryson’s book, a Walk in the Woods and loved it. He is very funny.
I love David Sedaris. Augustin Burroughs, Lauri Notaro and me! Some authors are funny without intending to be funny. I think I’m attracted to those types.
Huge book lover here too. I usually have 2 or 3 going at a time.
(And I loved A Walk in the Woods and A Dirty Job too! Great books!)
Thanks Mark for the book recommendations: Fat, Forty, and Fired by Nigel Marsh and A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. Sometimes all we need is a great book that will make us laugh.
Oh – I forgot to leave a recommendation! If you like Christopher Moore, you might check out Neil Gaimon. I loved Ananzi Boys. Smart and funny, though in a different way than A Dirty Job.
@David, I agree! Keep the brain strong!

@cathy, I will check it out! thanks!
Great recommendations! I need to read more books that make me laugh instead of cry.
I also read a book by Christopher Moore…Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal…hilarious! It explains all the world’s religions and we humans don’t come out looking real smart!
I have been dying to find a good book to read!! Thanks for these recommendations. I love a good book that can put a smile on my face π

I ordered 6 books from Amazon and I just got them today. I’m really looking forward to reading them but they’re all “serious” books. Now I want a funny book π
I love good humor writers. Bryson is a favorite, especially his “Life in a Sunburned Country”. I also love Laurie Notaro, David Sedaris, Carl Hiassen, and Sue Townsend (the Adrian Mole series, in particular). Anne Lamott makes me laugh when she’s not making me cry.
A newish writer I discovered last year is Troy Cook. His “47 Habits of Highly Effective Bank Robbers” is a hoot!
Thanks for the book recs! I love to laugh!
@tfh, Great idea! π
Kami Gray, thanks for the suggestion!
@Rupal, Need to find time for escape. π

I have that Bryson book! It’s in my to-read pile. Must move it to the top. :))
With the economic woes-we all need a good laugh-thanks for the book list.
I love Bill Bryson’s books! They make me laugh. And everything by Christopher Moore makes me laugh.
Terry Pratchett, in my opinion, is a brilliant social satirist who makes me laugh so hard I nearly fall out of my chair. Favorites: HOGFATHER, MASKERADE, WYRD SISTERS, MORT, GOING POSTAL.
MAKING MONEY made me laugh, but was also eerily relevant.
I’ve been a huge fan of Bill Bryson for years!
I definitely want to check out Fat, 40 and Fired–great (albeit sad) title!
Hi Mark, I really appreciate these funny book selections, I’ve never heard of any of them. Thanks so much!
I read Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life around this time last year and remember reading it while waiting in a LONG v-day line at the store and I kept giggling out loud and finally the guy behind me asked me what I was reading so he could give it to his wife ’cause she loves funny books. I love laughing π I will check out the ones you listed.
Thanks for all the book recommendations. I should check those out. π
