Today it is January 20th 2009. For me it is an amazing day for two reasons…my daughter turns 11 and WE as a country are climbing over a major hurdle! What do the events of today say to you? Are you a republican a democrat or neither? Does it really matter? I say no it doesn’t matter! Today we are ONE, a time to believe, a time for change. I’ve been proud to be an American since a young boy. Prouder still to have served as an Officer in the United States Coast Guard. Prouder even still to have served as a Military Aide in the White House to President Reagan.
I’m thankful for President Bush preventing another atrocity like 9/11 – which shook me more than any other event in my lifetime.
I pray President Obama will have the same courage to continue protecting our Nation … his PRIMARY duty. Economies have always cyclically risen and fallen (I remember too well the Crash of 1987, etc), but when an enemy targets and attacks a Nation, the devastation will linger, the scars never forgotten.

I came to this Country in 1988. I was 18 years old and still saw lots of discrimination in this country. 21 years later I am seeing something that I thought last year would not be possible, a black man taking office of the President.
This is truly a remarkable day.
I also hope that this remarkable Man will take this Country and bring it back to greatness. That people like you and me do not have to struggle from day to day, that our children will inherit a bright future and that we all can live in peace, be great neighbors regardless of race, color, religion and beliefs.

We must be the change we want or it will not happen. That said, it’s nice to have a president that people like for a change.
I did not think the country would elect him and I’m glad it did.

That today is a day for us all to step up and take some responsibility. Its not just on the powers that be, its on us all to take some action and pull ourselves out of the hole we put ourselves in.
The United States has the potential to return to a respectful, honorable, leadership driven nation and I’m excited to see how we’re gonna rise to the challenge 🙂

For me, today means I can feel GOOD (and hopeful) about government again. I can be patriotic again. President Obama’s (DAMN that feels good) speech about tying the past and the present together is SO true.

I’ve been watching tv since this morning, what a great day!
This is the first election where I didn’t just feel I was choosing from the lesser of two evils. I really admire Obama but I also hope people don’t expect so much from him that they get overexcited and then disappointed that he can’t move mountains!
I am a republican but it doesn’t matter………any one who can inspire our country the way he is……….is one amazing human being in my book!

Ah, the tween years! Each stage of life has it’s own rewards, right? Just keep chanting that.
As for Obama, today represents history, hope, happiness, and positive change. I’ll be praying that Obama has the wisdom and courage to lead this country where it needs to go. This country is run by more than just the president, so I’m not naive enough to think that he’ll get his way on everything (nor should he), but I think that he sets the tone for our nation – and I’m liking the tone so far!

I wrote a blogpost this morning about what his speech yesterday means to me personally. In short, I am filled with hope and inspiration, not only for the USA and the world, but for myself. I am ready to be the best I can be and do the best I can do.

First, I just want to say, that this Canadian was pleased to see the change in leadership. But Dr J said something very interesting: We must be the change we want or it will not happen. My concern, is that this very human man, is being put up on a pedestal with HUGE expectations of change being placed upon him. Generally, when one is put up on a pedestal, eventually that person is pushed uncermoniously off. Is the States as a whole nation ready to do what it takes to change? I dearly hope so.

It’s truly a meaningful day. Though I’m not American, but I do hope President Obama is able to bring changes to the US as well as a truly democratic leader to the world. He has the charisma and I like him a lot!
